This study sets out principles for urban design and public transport strategies to improve mobility in Belo Horizonte and its metropolitan region. It begins by reviewing different transport modes and identifying the key factors that influence decisions on technological solutions. It also examines the methodologies and proposals behind current mobility plans, with particular attention to the political factors that shape them. Based on this analysis, the study presents a proposal for a public transport network that reflects local and metropolitan dynamics, passenger demand, and the structure of road corridors. It also assesses the financial viability of this proposal by comparing its projected costs with similar projects in Brazil. The research then turns to the transformation of the city centre. It concludes with an urban design proposal for the area around Raul Soares Square, aiming to integrate pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport so that all users can share this public space.
